The victim of an early morning dorm fire at Southern Adventist University has been identified. University officials say Kelly Weimer died in the fire that broke out just before 4am at Thatcher Hall. Weimer was a junior English major from Woodridge, Illinois who lived on the third floor with two other residents who were injured. Those were Jen Bigham, a freshman broadcast journalism and psychology major from Biglerville, Pennsylvania and Cassandra Snyder, a freshman general studies student from Lansdowne, Pennsylvania . Both women have been treated and released from Erlanger Medical Center. Several other residents were treated on-site.
Late this morning, Thatcher South was re-opened but the main portion of the hall is still closed while the fire is under investigation. University officials have also announced that a service of remembrance will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at the Collegedale Seventh-day Adventist Church. |W|P|111458875851521635|W|P|Fire @ SUA|W|P|nicanikole@gmail.com|W|P|111431213223198915|W|P|Quote of the Day|W|P|nicanikole@gmail.com
LISTENING TO: Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf Yes i realize the title has nothing to do with anything...deal.
It's amazing what i can do when i actually focus... I haven’t accomplished everything today that I wanted yet, but I don’t feel like I’ve completely wasted my time either. I feel like I’ve gotten a lot done. Which is a good feeling to have once in awhile. I feel in control for once. And I think I’m saying feel way to much..:-p
Anyway one of the things that drives me mad is completely forgetting about an assignment until it’s too late. I did that Monday… completely forgot to read I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen. What drives me even more insane is the fact that I had time to do it even, but I wasn’t thinking about it. Grrr! So anyway I ended up BS’ing my way through an essay style quiz over the story. It was horrible, I was so vague, I basically restated the question and declared open-ended opinions with no examples. I had no clue. Lol, I didn’t want to turn it in I was so embarrassed, but I did anyhow. I got it back today, I got 1 point for my attempt :-p Better than zero I suppose ;)
Hmm all I have left is math…oh how I loathe thee…Oh and a meeting with whatsherface…ooh Lost is on at 8..Drat I just remembered it’s a rerun tonight…next week however is a recap of this season…should be cool don’t miss it! Than the finales..Ooh..I wonder how they’re gonna do that? I mean with the Alias finale…lol I might be in the Campus Center from 8-midnight otherwise.
::REFOCUS:: Bah humbug…math bites…

"Music is so naturally united with us that we cannot be free from it even if we so desired" (Boethius cited by Storr). I love music; just this morning it set the pace of my day. I woke up or rather I should say got up later than planned. I had to finish a tri-term paper due this morning. And the genius that I am, knowing full well I am not a morning person, went to bed “early” last night with the notion of “Oh I’ll just finish it in the morning!” Ehhhhhhhhhhhh! I do not function in a coherent manner that early in the morning to even begin comprehending 1+1 not to mention be efficient in my work. Everything I attempt to do at the butt crack of dawn takes me two or three times longer than it would normally! So I’m sitting there at my computer trying to rewrite my last 2 paragraphs so that they are cohesive with my thesis and conclusion (which I ended up changing anyway!) when I'm not even rational! I’m such a moron sometimes… Anyway…And to add to my stress I end up missing my first class which is math. When I miss math I get lost darn it so now I have to figure it out on my own...*grumbles*. Also I have always been one for technology but for heaven’s sake why does it hate me?! Why does my freaking printer choose to malfunction when I’m trying to print my damn paper! Anyway I finally got my peevish printer to cooperate with me. Leaving a few futile minutes to get presentable for my next class. I kept trying to think positive thoughts and not let my morning affect the rest of my day. It wasn’t working till I started singing “A Beautiful Morning” by the Rascals. I was singing in my head mind you, I couldn’t sing to save my life. It was just the chorus line but it sure altered my disposition in a fine way and I actually had an enjoyable day despite my morning.
It's a beautiful mornin', Ahhh,
I think I'll go outside a while,
An jus' smile.
